Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences

Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences is a faith-based, private institution founded in 1992.  The college works closely with Florida Hospital to offer programs in nursing and allied health to a variety of students.  Florida Hospital is the largest healthcare facility operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and Christian values and education are incorporated into student life and programs.

Course Descriptions

Concepts of Professional Nursing

In this course, students will develop a personal philosophy of nursing, and learn the concepts, communication skills as well as common challenges related to nursing at the baccalaureate-level.

Health Promotion and Assessment

Students will learn the basics of promoting and assessing health in the nursing environment.  Students will exam variations among healthy patients, age variations, as well as common abnormal results.

Community Health Nursing

Using an epidemiological framework, this course focuses on assessment and analysis of community health needs.  Primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care are emphasized

Pharmacology

In this case, students learn the basics of drugs used to treat patients including common treatment regimens, drug interactions, and analyzing multiple drug regimens.  Pharmacokinetics (body’s action on drug) and pharmacodynamics (drug’s action on body) are also part of this course.

Nursing of the Childbearing Family

This course focuses on providing care to families in the childbearing time. From pre-natal to post-partum care, the nurse will learn to assist the family in identifying and limiting environmental stressors

Duration and Cost

Students can complete the program in as little as 18 months or up to five years from their start date depending on their personal needs and schedule.

Things to consider:

  • Classes require scheduled 1 hour chat sessions and weekly course assignments
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 with no grade below a “C” in the previous degree program is required
  • Students must hold a current RN license, or if a recent graduate, be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN
