Norwich University

Founded in 1919, New England based Norwich University seeks to offer a professional, liberal arts education  to its students.  The university is home to residential and commuter students alike.  Norwich University is the birthplace of the ROTC and claims the title of the first private military academy, first private university to offer engineering instruction and one of the first institutions to accept women.

The university now offers undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs in education, business, teaching and learning and organizational leadership. Several government focused programs include a defense program for current military, military history and certificate in governmental operations programs.

  • A week long residency is required each June in the culmination of the program.

Online Master’s Degree in Nursing

The online Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) offers two specializations in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education.  Classes have no more than 16 students to ensure students receive individualized experience.  The program serves to provide a hands-on, internship degree and is less research oriented then some programs, as no internship is required.  Course completion is completely online and asynchronous, meaning students can complete work and requirements for the degree ay their own pace and on their own time schedule.

– Nurse Administrator

The Nurse Administrator concentration focuses on developing nurses who can assess, identify, and apply theoretical knowledge and evidence based practice to improve nursing and healthcare outcomes in a variety of settings

– Nurse Educator Concentration

The Nurse Educator Concentration focuses on developing a skilled leader and communicator in the field of education who holds management role within an educational facility and can inform policy through communicating with stakeholders.

Learning outcomes and goals for the nursing program include stronger leadership skills and business aptitude, combining patient care and management goals, identifying and implementing strategies to improve outcomes and provide best practice,  and shaping health care policy and the nursing profession.

Duration and Cost

The master’s program can be completed in as little as 18 months and up to 24 months depending on personal schedule and needs.  The program encourages students to contact an enrollment adviser to discuss the cost of their program, and tuition is approximately $25,000.

Faculty bring professional experience and activities and research into the classroom to provide a comprehensive learning experience to students.

  • Admission requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), an active and unencumbered license as a registered nurse, and a minimum of one year experience as a registered nurse.

The online master’s program at Norwich University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and and is approved by the Vermont State Board of Nursing.
