College of Central Florida Nursing Program Review
College of Central Florida (CF), previously known as Central Florida Community College (CFCC), is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College enrolls over 8,000 students each session. The college was founded in 1957 as Central Florida Junior College.
The school has a vibrant community and is home to many extracurricular activities including a museum on campus. Though it began as a junior college, the college now awards associate’s and bachelor’s degrees.
Review of College of Central Florida Nursing Degree Programs
Nursing programs at the College of Central Florida are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Students interested in nursing programs at the College of Central Florida must first register for and complete an online information session. Students who do not complete the online information session will not be eligible to apply for program admission. It is also important to note that the programs have limited access available and first consideration is given to residents of the Marion, Levy and Citrus counties served by the college. Certain programs require students to hold a current CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) card before enrolling. Students are also expected to obtain their own professional liability insurance as it is not provided by the college.
College of Central Florida Undergraduate Nursing Programs
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program
The ADN program prepares nurses to enter the workforce as well as for further study at the bachelor’s degree level. Upon completion of the program nurses are awarded an ADN and can take the national certification exam to become an RN (NCLEX-RN). The program can be completed on part or full-time basis and is generally completed in two years full-time, slightly longer part-time. Part-time students are required to take summer courses thus making the full and part time program lengths nearly equal.
LPN to ADN (Licensed Practical Nurse to Associate’s Degree in Nursing) Bridge Program
Students who are Licensed Practical Nurses can receive credit for their course time completed and participate in a shorter bridge program to earning their ADN. The program begins in the summer, and like other nursing programs at the College of Central Florida, enrollment preference is given to local residents. The program requires 60 credits to complete.
College of Central Florida Nursing Certificate Programs
Practical Nursing Post-Secondary Adult Vocational Certificate (PAVC) (LPN)
The PN program prepares students to sit the exam to become a licensed vocational nurse. The program is not for course credit or a degree, but is rather an hourly vocational program. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a certificate and then take a test to become certified nurses. The program is approximately one year and requires approximately 1,350 hours. The national certification exam, NCLEX-PN, is taken upon completion the program for nurses to earn their LPN Licensed Practical Nurse Qualification.
Appleton Museum of Art at College of Central Florida
The College of Central Florida’s Appleton Museum of Art houses one of the most prominent art collections in Florida consisting of ancient European, African, Asian, and indigenous Colombian artifacts as well as contemporary art. The museum began with a generous donation of the Appleton family’s art collection and has since grown to feature art related to the community as well as exhibit additional art collections.
