Northeast Alabama Community College Nursing Program Review

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) offers several different ways for students to obtain their degree in nursing at several different levels. They offer a certificate program in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), a training program in Nursing Assistant, an Associate in Applied Science Degree Mobility – LPN to Associate Degree Nurse, and an Associate in Applied Science Degree (ADN). The Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission in Atlanta Georgia.

Nursing Assistant Training Program

The training program offered by this institution in Nursing Assisting is a program that provides students with the ability to enter the health care profession at an entry level position. This type of program doesn’t count toward any type of college credit or toward any degree.

Certificate in Nursing – Practical Nurse (LPN)

This program is designed to allow the student to obtain a certificate in Practical Nursing in order to be eligible to apply to sit for the national licensure examination. Completing this program does not guarantee the graduate the ability to take the licensure examination. After completing this program and successfully completing the licensure exam, graduates can enter the workforce in several different medical settings, including hospitals, home care agencies, hospice, doctor’s offices, and clinics. Students must qualify for admission to the college to be eligible to apply for this program.

Associate in Applied Science Degree Mobility – LPN to ADN

This type of degree is designed for students that already have their Licensed Practical Nursing degree and are looking to obtain their Associate Degree in Nursing.  In order to qualify for this course, students must have a valid license to practice practical nursing and apply for admission to the college. After successful completion of this program, graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the national licensure exam; however they must qualify to take the exam through set standards.

Associate in Applied Science Degree Nursing Program – ADN

This program is designed for the traditional entrance into a nursing career. Each student must successfully complete the courses in the program as well the clinical and laboratory experiences required. After the student has successfully completed the program, they are then eligible to apply to sit for the national licensing exam for RNs. After passing this exam, the student can apply to a variety of different medical institutions in order to obtain employment or go on to continue their education at a four year institution.
