Tuskegee University Nursing School Review
Tuskegee University is situated in Tuskegee, Alabama. This college stresses the importance of education to career mobility. It was established in 1881 with Dr. Booker T. Washington as the first teacher. The school was promoted to University status in 1985 and began growing its programs to include doctoral programs in a variety of areas since then. Several different colleges of different studies quickly developed under the University’s name after that to allow for a greater diversity of students to be enrolled.
Tuskegee University Nursing Program Review
The nursing program at Tuskegee University (TU) operates under the School of Nursing & Allied Health. The School includes opportunities for students to study to achieve one of the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy to become an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR), or Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Each of these programs of study stand accredited by the appropriate national accrediting agency.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing – BSN
This program blends general education courses in with nursing specific courses to ensure that the student comes out of the program having a well rounded education. Students who have achieved an 80% or above on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), may enter this program in what is referred to as the Upper Division or the Professional Phase. Students who have not achieved this score will be required to begin at the Pre-Professional Phase. This program has been approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program offered by Tuskegee University prepares students to enter the nursing profession with the ability to be a dynamic addition with the necessary training to be flexible in the field and keep up with the ever evolving technology and techniques.
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy – Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR)
This program is designed to prepare graduates to write for the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Students must go out in the workforce and complete six months of full time practice within 2 years of graduating from the program in order to be eligible to apply to write the exam. Only after successful achievement of these two steps will the graduate obtain the title of Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). This program generally takes a total of five years to complete. The Occupational Therapy Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), which is a part of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences
This program is designed to prepare students to carry out difficult analysis in a health care setting as well as assist in patient care and relations between the medical facility’s medical staff and the patients. Students who choose to start this program will learn how to be meticulous in the studies leading to preventing diseases as well as treating diseases and everything in between. This program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Graduates of the program are able to sit for the certification exam that is executed by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (Board of Registry).
