Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) is located on a 500-acre campus seven miles east of downtown Montgomery, Alabama. It was founded in 1967 as a separately administrated branch campus of Auburn University.

Known for its challenging curricula, AUM was recognized by The Princeton Review as the “Best Southeastern College.” Established in 1979 with an objective to train professional nurses to provide patient-centered, evidence-based care for culturally diverse populations, the Auburn University at Montgomery School of Nursing offers several nursing degree programs, including the Accelerated Nursing Degree Program (AND). This accelerated BSN program allows students who have already earned a bachelors degree in another field to quickly begin nursing careers after completing the professional nursing training curriculum in three semesters and one summer term of study. To qualify for admission, the applicant must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 and must complete the prerequisite pre-nursing courses. The application deadline is May 10.

Samford University was founded in1841by the Alabama Baptist Convention. It was originally called Howard College, named after British philanthropist John Howard. As a Christian university, Samford cultivates intellectual, vocational, and ethical proficiency while promoting service to others, and social and civic responsibility. The Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing (IVMSON) at Samford University was established in1922 by the Birmingham Baptist Association. In 1955, IVMSON became the first program in Alabama to be accredited by the National League for Nursing. The nursing program transferred to Samford University in 1973 following a merger agreement with the Baptist Health System. IVMSON offers a number of nursing degree programs, including the 15-month Accelerated Second Degree BSN option. The 2nd Degree BSN is designed for students who have earned a bachelors degree in another field. Students enrolled in this accelerated BSN program have intense clinical and classroom experiences and must attend summer classes. Upon graduation from this accelerated second degree BSN Program, the graduate is eligible to take the licensing examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). To qualify for admission into this accelerated BSN program the applicant must also have completed all prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in each course. An interview is required. The application deadline is February 15.

The Capstone College of Nursing of the UA prepares students with the scientific and practical foundation to enter careers in nursing. In addition to the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program, Capstone offers the Second Degree program for students who already have a bachelors degree in another field and now wish to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing degree. Through this accelerated 2nd degree BSN program, students can complete the classroom and clinical BSN requirements in 5 semesters. To qualify for admission into this BSN second degree program the applicant must have also completed the prerequisite coursework. The application deadline is March 15.

The University of North Alabama (UNA) is Alabama’s oldest four-year public university. Occupying 130 acres in Florence, Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals, the UNA was originally founded as LaGrange College in 1830 by the Methodist Episcopal Church. Since its establishment the University of North Alabama has developed into an influential regional university that provides a wide array of educational opportunities for students through undergraduate and graduate programs in the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Nursing and Health. UNA has an enrolment of over 7,100 students each year and boasts over 50,000 alumni in Alabama, the southeast and all over the world.

The University of North Alabama College of Nursing & Allied Health was established in 1973 with a commitment to providing quality and accessible nurse education opportunities. In addition to its Traditional BSN program, the UNA also offers an Accelerated BSN alternative program. This ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree program allows students to complete the classroom and clinical requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 15 months. To qualify for admission into this BSN the applicant must have a non-nursing bachelors degree and must have completed the prerequisite classes. The application deadline is January 31.

The University of South Alabama (USA) is a public university located in Mobile, Alabama. It was created in 1963 by the Alabama legislature, replacing the extension school programs operated in Mobile by the University of Alabama. It is the only major public university in the upper gulf coast. USA is divided into ten different schools, with an enrollment of approximately 15,000. It is particularly known for its medical research and health-related programs at the College of Allied Health Professions, College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Auburn School of Pharmacy. The College of Nursing offers several different degree programs, including a special Accelerated BSN track for highly motivated students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. The Accelerated BSN Nursing program is based at the Baldwin County campus. It is a 12- month program at the end of which students are awarded the BSN degree. Admission to this BSN accelerated program is very competitive and selective. Applicants must have already earned a bachelors degree in another field and must also have completed all prerequisite courses. An interview may be required, during which an assessment will be made of the applicant’s verbal communication skills. The application deadline is April 1 to begin in July and August 1 to begin in January.
