Creighton University is a private, Catholic university located on a 120-acre campus in Omaha, Nebraska, adjacent Omaha’s business district.  There is a second campus in Hastings.  It was founded in 1878 by the Society of Jesus and a gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton.  Today Creighton University annually enrolls over 6,900 students in 9 colleges and schools.

Nursing training at Creighton began in 1928 when Creighton became affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing. In 1955 Creighton established a nursing department in the College of Arts and Sciences and in 1978 the nursing program became a school.  The School of Nursing offers programs on both the Omaha and Hastings campuses.  Creighton’s ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program allows qualified students to earn a BSN degree after 12 months of full-time classroom and clinical work.  To qualify for this BSN second degree program, the student must have already earned a non-nursing bachelors degree and must have completed the prerequisite classes with a grade of “C” or better in each.  The prerequisites include:  Sociology or Cultural Anthropology, General Psychology, Lifespan Development or Developmental Psychology, Ethics or Bioethics, Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Anatomy and Physiology.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Nebraska Methodist College is a private college affiliated with the Methodist Health System   located in Omaha, Nebraska.  It was founded in 1988 as the Diploma School of Nursing and in 1988 was incorporated as a college.  Today Nebraska Methodist College enrolls over 900 students and offers several health-related undergraduate and graduate academic programs.  The nursing program at Nebraska Methodist College offers an Accelerated BSN program that allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree after 15 months of intensive, full-time classroom and clinical work.  To qualify for this 2nd degree BSN program, the student must have already earned an associates or bachelors degree in a field other than nursing.  The student must also have completed the 13 prerequisite classes prior to matriculation.  The application deadlines is August for January entry.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is a public, academic medical center located in Omaha, Nebraska.  It is part of the University of Nebraska System.  It was founded in 1879 as a private medical college and renamed in 1880 as the Omaha Medical College.  In 1902 it became part of the University of Omaha, which in 1968 decided to consolidate all of its health sciences programs into the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Today, the school offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in 11 colleges, institutes and schools. The University of Nebraska School for Nurses opened in 1917 with 13 students.  Now called the College of Nursing, it offers an Accelerated BSN program that allows qualified students to earn a BSN degree in 12 months.  The program schedule includes a 12-week summer semester followed by a 16-week fall semester, and a 16-week spring semester.  Clinical training is scheduled in each semester and may occur on weekends and evenings.  To qualify for this BSN second degree program, the student must have already earned a bachelors degree in a field other than nursing and must have completed the prerequisite classes.  The application deadline is in October for May entry.
