The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions is a two year program that is 38 academic credits. The DNP program is designed so that nurses may continue working while pursing doctoral nursing education. The DNP is delivered primarily through distance learning.

Applicants to the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program should have APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) certification with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program. A GPA of at least 3.0 is required for admission to the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program. Nurses with a masters degree in a related healthcare field or who do not possess APRN certification may consult the program regarding possible admission.

The PhD in Nursing is a three year, eight semester program. Students in the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing program will complete approximately 75 academic credits.  To apply to the nursing PhD program, students should have a minimum 3.4 GPA and an MSN. Select applicants will be required to interview with nursing faculty.  Prerequisite courses in statistics and research methods are required and must be completed with a “B-” or better grade.

The University of Utah is based in the state’s capital, Salt Lake City. The university was founded in 1850 and serves over 30,000 students annually. The University of Utah encourages students to maintain a healthy life balance and many students participate in extracurricular activities such as skiing at resorts near the campus.

The DNP offered at the University of Utah is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The DNP program is offered in a Bachelors to Doctor of Nursing Practice option as well as a Masters to Doctor of Nursing Practice. Several specialties are offered within the DNP which include Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health and Primary Care. A distance education option is offered for the BSN to DNP program which allows nurses to complete coursework online, complete clinical practicum experience in their locale and come to campus only for required academic visits.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing is offered as a distance education program. Students in the PhD in Nursing program develop an individualized program of study with a faculty advisor, and can focus their studies in a field such as aging, oncology or end-of-life care. Masters prepared nursing PhD applicants should have an MSN or masters degree in a related healthcare field earned with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Applicants to the BS to PhD program should have a BSN with a 3.3 or higher GPA.  GRE scores are required as part of the admission process and should be above the 50th percentile.
