LPN Programs in Utah

According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, there’s likely to be an increase of nearly 30% in the demand for qualified LPN’s or Licensed Practical Nurses in the state between now and 2016. That makes this one of the fastest careers in the health care sector in the state, and a great choice for anyone looking to start a career, or change their career path.

So career growth is a distinct possibility for LPN’s in Utah, but you still need to know how to get licensed before you can start looking for jobs, or working as a Utah LPN.

Entrance Requirements for LPN Schools in Utah

Like most other states, Utah requires all would be LPN’s to complete a state approved training course, before they can register. That means that you will need to take a course run by a college or university, or one of the technical or vocational schools in the state that are accredited to offer the state curriculum.

In order to gain entry to those courses, you will need to meet a set of criteria, which may include criminal record checks, drug testing, a clean bill of health, and other requirements, like certain college entrance tests. You will also probably need to be 18 years old or older, and have at a minimum a GED or high school diploma.

Curriculum for LPN Programs in Utah

The state also sets the minimum course curriculum requirements for LPN schools and programs in Utah, and in most cases, courses are around one year long.

During those courses, all aspects of the Licensed Practical Nurse’s job are covered, from hands on clinical training in basic nursing of every type of patient from infants to the elderly, to basic pharmacology, anatomy and physiology. At the end of an licensed practical nursing course, you should be ready to work in any hospital or medical facility, and be comfortable in the job.

Registering As An LPN in Utah

The final step in becoming an LPN in Utah is to pass the NCLEX-PN exam, and to complete the Utah state required questionnaire (which covers health issues, your character, criminal record etc.) Then you can apply to be registered on the Utah Board of Nursing list of LPNs in the state.
