AMVETS, Illinois Department offers the Sad Sack Nursing Scholarship to encourage Illinois residents, including the children of veterans,  to pursue careers in nursing.

AMVETs was established to improve the lives of veterans by increasing public awareness and providing community-based programs to support Veterans.   The eligible candidate must be an Illinois resident who is a high senior and has been accepted into a nursing program at an accredited college, university or school of nursing in the State of Illinois.  Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.  Preference is given to children of disabled or deceased veterans.

Sara and Stephen Carney Endowed Pediatric Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship from the Sinclair School of Nursing is awarded to a nursing student whose career wil be focused in child care or pediatrics.  The applicant must be a senior undergraduate or graduate student at the school.

SBA Scholarship Fund

The Spina Bifida Association offers scholarships to people affected with spina bifida who wish to advance their education by attending a college or university four year program.  There is no stipulation on the field of study, so applicants wishing to pursue a nursing career may apply.

Eligibility includes a doctor’s statement of disability.  Please note that funds are limited and this can be a competitive scholarship.

S. Evelyn Lewis memorial Scholarship in Medical Health Sciences

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has set up a National educational Foundation which offers scholarships to women seeking to further their education in college or university.  Several of these could be used for those seeking a career in nursing.

Cochise College offers the Second-Year Nursing Student Scholarship to encourage students to continue working toward receiving nursing degrees by providing financial assistance.  The eligible candidate must be enrolled full-time at the Cochise College Nursing Program pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing.  The eligible candidate must be a sophomore and have a GPA of at least 2.5.  Preference is given to graduates of Buena High School.  Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

SEIU Nora Piore Scholarship Program

This is a renewable $4,000 scholarship available through the Service Employees International Union.  It is available to a student seeking a career in the health professions, such as nursing.  Nora Piore was an healthcare activist and economist.

The Akron General Medical Center provides two separate scholarships for nursing students.  This particular scholarship is available to a student accepted in to an approved graduate nursing program and is based upon financial need.

Sharps Compliance Scholarship Essay Program

This is a scholarship award provided by Sharps Alliance open to students enrolled in university health care studies, such as nursing.  There are first, second and third place prizes in the amounts of $1,500, $1,000 and $750 respectively.

Southern Illinois Healthcare offers scholarships to students seeking education in the health care fields, including nursing.  Scholarship funds are also available for Registered Nurses working for SIH who wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree.

Sinclair School of Nursing Scholarships

The Sinclair School of Nursing offers a variety of internal scholarships to students already accepted in the nursing programs, both the undergraduate and graduate.  Applications are submitted to the student office at which point you may be awarded any scholarship for which you are deemed eligible.  The scholarship awards range from $500 to $1,000.

This scholarship is available from the Sinclair School of Nursing. It is an internal scholarship available to nursing students who are also working at the University of Missouri hospital or clinic.  Funds available may vary, according to availability.

Alpha Iota President’s Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is funded by the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau nursing. It is an internal scholarship awarded out of the Sinclair School of Nursing. The dollar amount awarded varies, but the minimum is $500

Eligibility includes nursing students with a grade point average high enough that will allow them membership in to the chapter. Applicants must also demonstrate a financial need

Annette McClanahan Harrison Endowed Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time nursing undergraduate student. Eligibility includes a demonstrated financial need and preference is given to a student who is from Missouri.

Arlene L. and Cynthia M. Grueber Nursing Advancement Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will be awarded to either an LPN upgrading his/her educational level to a BSN, or an RN upgrading their education level to either a BSN or PhD level.  The amount to be awarded is meant to be substantial, though at the time of this writing, that amount has not yet been announced.

Arlyn M. Gerwin Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is given in memory or Arlyn M. Gerwin who was a school teacher in Missouri.  Her neice was a graduate of the Sinclair School of Nursing.

This scholarship is available through the Hawaii Community Foundation.  It is awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program at Maui Community College.  Applicants are expected to be involved in community service.

Mary Ellen Hatfield School of Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to one Registered Nurse and one Licensed Practical Nurse who desire to enhance their education.

Palmetto Gold Undergraduate Scholarship

Monies for these scholarships are provided by dollars raised through the Palmetto Gold Galla, and contributions of supporting contributors.  These are then given to every nursing undergraduate program in South Carolina for distribution to qualifying students.

Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP)

The U.S. Army funds several ways for you to get your nursing education, in return for service with the army.  The Army Nurse Candidate Program will help you in your pursuits to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or you may wish to use the Specialized Training Assistance Program to increase your nursing education to that of a baccalaureate level.  This later requires you only to serve with the Army Reserve for one year, in exchange for a monthly stipend of $1,900

The University of Alabama offers the State of Alabama Nursing Scholarship to encourage Alabama students to pursue careers in nursing.  The eligible candidate must be an Alabama resident who is enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited college, university or school of nursing.  The candidate must have an ACT score of at least 21 or combined SAT score of at least 909.  Preference is given to college students with a GPA of at least “B”.

Suburban Hospital Scholarship
Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland offers the Suburban Hospital Scholarship to encourage employees of Suburban Hospital to further their careers through education.   Suburban Hospital is a community based, nonprofit hospital serving Montgomery County.  It is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine.  The eligible candidate must be a resident of the Washington, DC metropolitan area and an employee of Suburban Hospital.  The candidate must also be enrolled in an undergraduate nursing or allied health program, with a GPA of at least 2.5.  The recipient must fulfill a service commitment by working at Suburban Hospital after graduation.
