Wisconsin Nursing Schools

Overall, there are 34 accredited nursing schools in Wisconsin, which is also home to a variety of nursing degree programs, from associate’s to doctoral degrees.

Student response to the nursing shortage has been very good, so some Wisconsin schools do have considerable waitlists, but there are still plenty of excellent nursing programs without them, too.

In recent years, Wisconsin has taken a lot of steps to increase the number of nursing students their schools can accommodate, like accelerated degree programs, online and distance learning programs, shared curricula, and more.

Wisconsin also provides a lot of excellent job opportunities for nurses after graduation. The state has several large hospitals that provide generous sign-on bonuses to nurses, as well as medical facilities that serve smaller, rural communities. No matter what kind of challenge you want your nursing career to provide for you, Wisconsin’s nursing industry can fit the bill.

Career Outlook for Wisconsin Nurses

Wisconsin ends up hiring nurses from out of state, state hospitals offer generous benefits and sign-on bonuses to new hires, and rural areas are doing all they can to help lure qualified medical staff out to their areas.

Wisconsin has some very urban areas, as well as some very rural areas. As a result, nursing salaries vary. A registered nurse in Milwaukee can expect to earn a median annual income of around $66,000, while the same nurse in La Crosse would earn around $59,000. These are medians for these areas, so they actually represent an overall statewide range that spans from $48,000 to $78,000. All figures are from the BLS.
