Salaries for New Jersey Nurses

This means that nursing salaries will vary accordingly, as well as vary based on what kind of setting the nurse is working in, and how much competition there is for that particular position. An Atlantic City RN could earn a median salary of $72,000, reflecting a range from $60,000 to over $86,000. Meanwhile, a Passaic, NJ RN could earn a median salary of $76,000, reflecting a range from $63,000 to over $91,000. In Trenton, closer to the middle of the state, an RN could earn a median salary of about $74,000.

New Jersey Board of Nursing

New Jersey’s Board of Nursing is an important information resource for licensed or registered nurses, but it’s even more important for nursing students. It can provide information on licensing and examination requirements, various types of nurse certification, approved nursing schools and programs within New Jersey, and more. The Board of Nursing can be reached through their website, or at P.O. Box 45010, 124 Halsey St., 6th Floor, Newark, NJ, 07101.

Educational Institute Nursing Scholarships
New Jersey nursing schools offer a myriad of nursing scholarships and grants for students.  Many nursing schools are associated with colleges and universities. In these situations, nursing students also have access to general scholarship opportunities available through the school’s financial aid office.  Following is an example of institutional-based nursing scholarships and grants.

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
Students enrolled in the School of Nursing have access to nearly two dozen nursing scholarships and grants including the Nancy B. Weinstein Endowed Nursing Scholarship and the Helene Fuld Health Trust Scholarship. All scholarship programs have separate eligibility and submission requirements.  Award amounts vary as do deadlines. For additional information, including scholarship applications and guidelines, contact the School of Nursing directly at (973) 972-5336.

Employer-Sponsored Nursing Scholarships
Many New Jersey employers have scholarship programs for employees and family members.  Nursing students who meet this criterion as either the employee or the family member may be eligible for employer-sponsored nursing scholarships.  Employers may also provide scholarships to community residents. The Valley Hospital Auxiliary is an example of a program that offers employer-sponsored scholarships to area residents.

The Valley Hospital Auxiliary
The Auxiliary provides nursing scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Hospital’s service area.  Students must be accepted to an accredited nursing program to apply for nursing scholarships.  Scholarships are awarded based on community service and commitment, academic potential, and financial need.  There are no deadlines and award amounts vary.  For application forms and guidelines, interested students can contact the Auxiliary at 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 or by calling (201) 447-8135.

Community-Based Nursing Scholarships
New Jersey communities offer many nursing scholarships and grants to local residents.  These nursing scholarships and grants are available from health care organizations, foundations, and civic groups.  Even local chambers of commerce may offer nursing scholarships to address a community need. The William F. Grupe Foundation, Inc. and the Frank and Louise Groff Foundation are foundations that offer community-based nursing scholarships.

William F. Grupe Foundation, Inc.
Nursing students who live in a three-county area in New Jersey and have documented financial need may be eligible for nursing scholarships from the Foundation.  Students must live in Hudson, Bergen, or Essex counties and plan to remain in the state to work after obtaining their nursing degrees.  Both undergraduate and graduate nursing students are eligible for financial support.  Scholarships are typically for $4,500.  Applications are due my March annually.  Students should contact the Foundation directly for application forms and guidelines.  Write the Foundation, c/o TD Banknorth, N.A., Wealth Management Group, 1500 U.S. Highway 202, Suite 201, Basking Ridge, NH 07920.

Frank and Louise Groff Foundation
If you are a graduate of a public high school such as Red Bank Regional High School in New Jersey you may be eligible for a scholarship from the Foundation. Preference is given to Monmouth County students. Students must be enrolled to become registered nurses to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic scores, documentation of acceptance to an accredited nursing program, and personal essay. Interviews are required of all selected applicants.  Award amounts vary.  Applications are due to the Foundation by mid-March annually.  For applications and guidelines, students should contact the Foundation at 15 Floyd Wycoff Road, Morganville, NJ 07751 or by calling (732) 842-8000.
