Georgia Nursing Schools

There are over 55 different accredited nursing schools in Georgia. The most prevalent nursing degree offering in Georgia is at the Bachelor’s level, with 50 different schools either offering a 4-year BSN or an RN to BSN program. There are a number of options for a Bachelor’s level degree in nursing or a Master’s in Nursing at either campus-based institutions in Georgia, or online universities.

Table of Contents

Georgia is one of the states suffering the most from the nursing shortage. As a result, the state has worked hard to come up with solutions that would recognize nursing graduates from nontraditional educational programs, and give them the opportunity to take nursing examinations and become licensed or registered.

Having a nursing shortage is bad news for hospitals, patients, and nursing programs, but excellent for prospective nurses. Georgia has a pretty huge list of accredited and approved nursing schools and programs, most of which don’t have waitlists. These schools and programs run the gamut from small schools to large universities, and from rural to urban campuses. After graduation, students can expect the same freedom of choice in where they go to work, whether they decide on a large state hospital, or a small hospital in an underserved rural area.

Georgia Nursing Information for Students

One of the many ways in which Georgia is courting prospective nursing students is by offering a range of loan repayment programs, and other financial incentives. These include tuition reimbursement programs offered by employers, the Allied Health Career Program, the NE Georgia Health System Service Cancelable Loan Program, the Intellectual Capital Partnership Program, and the Georgia Nurse Faculty Service Cancelable Program.

Service cancelable programs are programs that allow students to work in underserved areas in exchange for forgiveness of a portion of their student loans. This helps students leave college with less debt, and helps those areas that are suffering the most from the nursing shortage to get the qualified medical staff that they need to serve their patients.

Career Options for Georgia Nurses

Georgia nursing salaries vary, just like they do pretty much everywhere else that’s home to a variety of geographic and economic areas. A registered nurse in Savannah, for example, can expect to earn a median salary of $59,223, while the same nurse would earn around $66,000 in Atlanta. These medians reflect an overall salary range of $48,000 to nearly $80,000. All figures are from the BLS.

Georgia Board of Nursing

Georgia’s Board of Nursing is equally important for licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and nursing students alike. It provides information on topics like licensing and examinations, educational requirements, disciplinary actions, approved nursing schools and programs, and more. The Georgia Board of Nursing is able to be reached via their website, or at 237 Coliseum Drive, Macon, GA, 31217-3858, or on their website.
