Bellin College Nursing Program Review
Bellin College is located in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was founded in 1909 as Deaconess Sanitarium Training School, and offered a Diploma in Nursing. In 1912, the school was incorporated as Wisconsin Deaconess Training School and in 1925 it was reincorporated as Bellin Memorial Hospital of Nursing. Almost 60 years later, it was reincorporated as Bellin College of Nursing and almost 15 years later, it was renamed Bellin College (BC).
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Bellin College was founded in 1984 and the Master of Science in Nursing at Bellin College began in 2004. In 2008, Bellin College began offering a Bachelor of Science in Radiological Sciences, and therefore changed its name to simply Bellin College.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Bellin College is composed of a combination of in-class lectures and clinical practice. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree requires individuals to complete 128 credits in order to graduate from the program and the nursing courses are to be completed at Bellin College, with the liberal education courses taken at the same time from the first semester of the program. Bellin College offers some liberal education courses, but some liberal education courses need to be completed at two or four-year education institutions like the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay or St. Norbert College. Bellin College students can also take liberal education courses at the College of Menominee Nation and Silver Lake College.
Individuals can complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program via a variety of options; Traditional, Sophomore Transfer Option and a 15 month option. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Bellin College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.Upon graduation from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Bellin College, individuals can go on to write the NCLEX-RN examination, in order to become licensed as a Registered Nurse and work in a variety of healthcare establishments in the United States, including; hospitals, long-term care facilities, physicians’ offices and hospices, among others.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The Master of Science in Nursing is intended for nurses who wish to expand their education in nursing and progress their nursing career to a more senior level. The graduate program in nursing at Bellin College is intended for nurses who are interested in leadership positions and the program is composed of a combination of in-class lectures and clinical practice. The graduate nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Master of Science in Nursing at Bellin College has two streams; Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Nurse Educator. The Family Nurse Practitioner Track is a 48-credit program, which is intended for individuals who wish to become licensed as independent practitioners in primary care. Individuals in this track are mandated to complete 680 hours of clinical practicum in a variety of healthcare environments. Upon completion of the Family Nurse Practitioner graduate track, individuals can apply to write the ANCC exam and/or the AANP family nurse practitioner certifying exam.
The Nurse Educator Track at Bellin College is composed of 38-credit hours and is for individuals who wish to work in the educational stream of nursing. Students are required to complete their coursework, as well as 360 hours of clinical practice. Upon graduation from the Nurse Educator Track graduate program, individuals can apply to write the Certified Nurse Educator Exam.
