California University of Pennsylvania Nursing School Review

California University of Pennsylvania (CAL-U) is based in California, Pennsylvania. The university was founded in 1852 and offers over 150 undergraduate programs in academic fields including nursing, education and business. Nursing Programs

The BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing) program at California University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

The RN to BSN program at California University of Pennsylvania is a degree completion program that prepares licensed Registered Nurses with the additional education necessary to earn the BSN. Admission requirements to the program include graduation from an ADN or nursing diploma program accredited by NLNAC (National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission), current licensure as an RN in Pennsylvania and completion of an entry-level nursing portfolio. Progression through the nursing program requires students to maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The undergraduate nursing program can be completed in approximately two years of study. RNs receive 75 credits for previous coursework-30 credits from the RN nursing program, 30 credits from general education courses and 15 credits for the nursing portfolio evaluation. The program is also suitable for RNs with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing that would like to earn a BSN. Upon completion of the RN to BSN program, students earn a BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing).

CCA’s ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) Program at California University

Through a partnership with the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), students interested in a nursing program who are not yet licensed RNs may complete an ADN program at the California University of Pennsylvania campus. Faculty members of the Community College of Allegheny County teach nursing courses while California University of Pennsylvania faculty members teach general education courses. Upon completion of the nursing licensure program, students earn an ADN and are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become an RN. Upon completing the ADN program, students may progress to the RN to BSN program. Students interested in applying to the program should consult an academic advisor.

California University of Pennsylvania Undergraduate Nursing Programs

MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) Nursing Administration and Leadership

The MSN in Nursing Administration and Leadership is an online nursing degree program. Admission requirements to the MSN program include a BSN from a program accredited by a nursing body (NLNAC or CCNE), a minimum 3.0 GPA, and 3 credits of undergraduate coursework in each of the following classes: nursing leadership, nursing research and statistics. The MSN program can be completed in 20 months. Upon completion of the graduate nursing program, students earn an MSN and are eligible to take the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) exam for certification in Nursing Administration. Students should note that the MSN program does include two semesters of summer study within the five semesters required to complete the program.
