Indian Capital Technology Center Nursing Program Review

Indian Capital Technology Center (ICTC) is part of Oklahoma’s Career Tech program. The center was founded in 1970.  The main campus of Indian Capital Technology Center is based in Muskogee with additional campuses in Sallisaw, Stilwell and Tahlequah.  Over 23,000 students enroll in more than 39 educational programs at Indian Capital Technology Center. Indian Capital Technology Center strives to prepare students with relevant vocational skills particularly suited to the local area. Though courses from technology centers are generally not transferable, students may earn college credit in some courses of study.

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit for some programs at Indian Capital Technology Center through Connors State College or Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Courses are offered both online and on campus. In addition to certificate programs, students may also participate in continuing education programs to stay up to date in their field. High school students may attend Indian Capital Technology Center for free. Indian Capital Technology Center is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement as well as the Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education (OBCTE).

Nursing Programs

 Indian Capital Technology Center offers the Practical Nursing program. A Nurse Assistant program is offered in conjunction with the Diagnostic Aide program. The Practical Nursing program at Indian Capital Technology Center is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Practical Nursing

Students desiring to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) should enroll in the Practical Nursing program at Indian Capital Technology Center.  The Practical Nursing program includes classroom preparation in addition to five specialized clinical experiences in basic nursing, medical surgical nursing, maternal and pediatric nursing, mental health nursing and transition to nursing practice. The Practical Nursing program can be completed in 1,463 hours of study. Upon completion of the LPN program, students are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses, NCLEX-PN.

Diagnostic Aide and Nurse Assistant Program

The joint Diagnostic Aide and Nurse Assistant Program at Indian Capital Technology Center prepares nurses to work in a variety of healthcare settings as a supportive member of the healthcare team. The Diagnostic Aide and Nurse Assistant program can be completed in 1050 hours of study, which requires approximately 1 or 2 years for full and part time study respectively. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) exam to become a CNA in the state of Oklahoma. The Diagnostic Aide and Nurse Assistant program is designed to provide not only an entry-level opportunity in the healthcare field, but also the opportunity to develop a foundation in nursing education for further study in the field of nursing and other healthcare fields.  Students in the Diagnostic Aide and Nurse Assistant program can earn academic credit for their coursework through Connors College and Oklahoma State Institute of Technology. Admission requirements for the program include current enrollment in a partner high school (while making adequate progress towards graduation) or being an adult student.
