Nursing Programs
The BSN program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN). The Nursing Department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University uses the model of caring as a key component to the nursing program. The importance of nurses as caring healthcare professionals is highly stressed in the BSN program. Past nursing cohorts have received a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam. Three nursing tracks are offered to accommodate students at all levels of nursing education.

BSN (Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing) Program
Generic Track
The Generic BSN track is ideal for aspiring nurses without previous nursing education or experience. Admission requirements include a minimum 2.5 GPA and completion of prerequisite courses which include English, finance and introductory psychology and sociology. Prior to applying to the nursing program students should complete all nursing pre-requisites and obtain certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Students traditionally apply to the program in their junior year of study after all nursing prerequisites are completed. The Generic or Traditional BSN can be completed in four years total including the time it takes to complete course pre-requisites. Upon completion of the program, students earn a BSN and are eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
RN (Registered Nurse) Track
The RN BSN track is ideal for Applicants with an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or diploma. RNs with an ADN or diploma from an NLNAC accredited program will automatically receive course credit applicable the BSN program for their previous education and experience. Admission requirements to the RN program include a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall, a grade of “C” or better in all prerequisite courses and licensure as an RN. RNs without an ADN or diploma from an NLNAC accredited program may take challenge exams or courses to demonstrate proficiency for the nursing program. After completing the RN track, nurses earn a BSN degree.
LPN to BSN (Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) Track
The LPN to BSN track prepares LPNs for in-depth study of nursing concepts and the nursing role at the bachelor’s degree level. Nurses will receive credit for a select number of nursing courses upon entering the program, and may receive additional credit upon completing a minimum of 12 academic credits at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The LPN to BSN program can normally be completed in four semesters. Upon completion of the program, students receive a BSN and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
