Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU, OWU) offers associate’s through master’s degrees in more than 30 subjects to over 1,000 students each year. The university was founded in the Wesleyan tradition. Oklahoma Wesleyan University is a merger of several institutions, the oldest being Colorado Springs Bible College founded in 1910. The Bartlesville campus of Oklahoma Wesleyan University was founded in 1959. The university was established to provide higher education to Wesleyan young adults. Oklahoma Wesleyan University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Nursing Programs
The BSN (Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing) degree program at Oklahoma Wesleyan University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The School of Nursing at Oklahoma Wesleyan University offers both online and campus based undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University Undergraduate Nursing Programs
Traditional BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
Students without previous nursing education or experience may apply for the traditional BSN program at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Admission criteria to the Traditional BSN program include a minimum 2.75 GPA, completion of at least 32 credits of college coursework, a satisfactory score on the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) and completion of course prerequisites. Prerequisites to the traditional undergraduate nursing program include anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. Students are also required to submit an essay explaining their goals and interest in the nursing program as part of the admission. A separate application is required for the university and nusing program.
RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) (MBA-NM)
The RN to BSN program at Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s School of Nursing is designed to give RNs without a four-year degree a deeper understanding of the nursing field. Admission requirements to the undergraduate nursing program include an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) from an accredited college or university, transferable credits from previous nursing program, a minimum 2.5 GPA and a current RN license. The RN to BSN program requires 126 credits total for graduation. Courses in the RN to BSN program are generally taken once course at a time, and nurses can maintain a full time professional schedule throughout the program. In order to graduate from the undergraduate nursing program, nursing students must maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout the course of the program.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University Graduate Nursing Programs
MBA in Nursing Management (Master of Business Administration in Nursing Management-MBA NM)
The MBA in Nursing Management prepares nurses to study healthcare management techniques from a Christian perspective through a Master’s in Business Administration. Admission requirements to the program include at least 3 years of full-time work experience, a minimum 3.0 GPA in previous college coursework and an admission essay. Students unable to meet the 3.0 GPA requirement may be eligible for conditional admission to the MBA Nursing Management program with a 2.5 GPA. The MBA NM program can be completed in 22 months. Upon completion of the program, nurses receive an MBA in Nursing Management.
