Red River Technology Center Nursing Program Review

Duncan, Oklahoma based Red River Technology Center (RRTC) awards technical and vocational certificates to over 100 students each year. Red River Technology Center was founded in 1966. The center is part of the large system of vocation and technology centers in Oklahoma. Red River Technology Center is accredited by the Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education.

Red River Technology Center Nursing Certificate Programs

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing program at Red River Technology Center prepares students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Admission requirements for the Practical Nursing program include holding a GED or high school diploma and completing an entrance exam. Students should note that both classroom coursework and clinical practicum experiences are held in the daytime. Upon completion of the LPN program, students will take the NCLEX-PN, National Council for Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses, to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The Practical Nursing program may be completed in approximately one year, both beginning and ending in summer.

LTC/HHC Nursing Assistant

The Long Term Care/Home Health Care Nursing Assistant Program prepares nursing assistants with additional qualifications to serve in home and long-term care settings. The LTC/HHC program can be completed in 112 hours. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take a certification exam with the State of Oklahoma.

Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant program at Red River Technology Center requires 623 hours to complete. Upon completion of the nursing assistant program, students receive a certificate and are eligible to take the Oklahoma State Board Exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in Oklahoma.

Nursing Certificate Programs at Red River Technology Center

Through a partnership with Ed2Go, Red River Technology Center offers several 6 week certificate courses that prepare nurses with additional knowledge in an area of practice or specific client population. Courses meet online, and topics include Gerontology (working with elderly populations), end of life care (providing services to terminally ill patients), and alternative medicine.

Cooperative Alliance Program

Though technology centers do not normally offer college credit, through the Cooperative Alliance program, students enrolled in certain vocation programs at Red River Technology Center are eligible for college credit at partner institutions. Murray State College Tishomingo, Western Oklahoma State College Altus, and Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology Okmulgee are part of the Cooperative Alliance Program and partnered with Red River Technology Center. Health careers programs including practical nursing and nursing assistant are eligible to participate in the Cooperative Alliance program. After earning an LPN diploma or Nursing Assistant certificate, students transferring to a partner institution may earn credit towards a degree program.
