Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development Nursing Program Review

Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development (GOITCD) is in one of the nation’s biggest career and technical education areas and has provided career development, economic development and workforce development services to southwest Ohio ever since the year 1970.

Great Oaks has numerous adult workforce development locations – one each in Cincinnati, Wilmington, Milford and Washington Court House; and four in Cincinnati itself. Students will need to find out on their own whether they can take their classes in their preferred location of choice.

Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development – Nursing

Great Oaks provides entry-level programs for health training, including the Patient Care Assistant program and the State Tested Nursing Assistant program. The training options include a week in the Patient Care Assistant program, two weeks in the State Tested Nurse Assistant program, and five weeks in the State Tested Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Assistant program.

The Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development nursing program has been approved by the Ohio Department of Education and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI).

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

This training program teaches students how they can provide personal care skills in the presence of licensed nurses. This is the prerequisite program for the PCA training program.

In general, this program takes two weeks to complete and includes clinical training at a proper healthcare facility. Graduates are allowed to take the STNA state test, after which they will be able to work in a proper healthcare, hospice care and home care facility.

Graduates will also receive the Great Oaks Certificate of Completion and get 6 credits in total at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

This training program teaches students how they can provide acute surgical and medical care in the presence of licensed nurses.

To apply for this program, students need to have already passed the STNA class. In general, this program takes 40 training hours to complete within a single week.

Graduates will receive the Great Oaks Certificate of Completion and get 3 credits in total at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

STNA/PCA Training

This training program teaches students how they can provide direct patient care, as well as acute surgical and medical care, in the presence of licensed nurses.

In general, this program takes five weeks to complete and consists of one week of PCA training, two weeks of STNA training and two weeks of career coaching.

Graduates are allowed to take the STNA state test, after which they will be able to work in a hospital or care facility. Graduates may also avail of follow-up and placement services if needed.

Aside from that, graduates will also receive the Great Oaks Certificate of Completion and get 9 credits in total at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Practical Nursing

This program can be taken at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, where students can earn credits as they get ready for the PN exam.
