Charleston Southern University is an independent post-secondary institution with ties to the Southern Baptist convention. The university was established in 1964 and was formally named Baptist College. Just over 3,000 students are enrolled at Charleston Southern University.

The MSN Nurse Educator program at Charleston Southern University is a faith-based nursing masters degree program that prepares nurses for faculty positions in a nursing school. The MSN program is delivered online and is accredited by the NLNAC. Scholarships, work-study and other federal financial aid programs are available to help nursing students fund their education. In order to maintain enrollment in the MSN program, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Nursing students are permitted to earn one grade below a “B” in any given class in their academic program. Subsequent grades below a “B” may result in dismissal from the nursing program.

In addition to the nursing masters program for bachelors prepared nurses, an RN to MSN program is offered for nurses without a bachelors degree seeking graduate training in nursing. Applicants to the nursing masters program with a GPA below 3.5 must submit a satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Exam or Miller Analogies Test taken no more than five years prior. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required for admission to the nursing masters degree program unless a student is applying for the RN to MSN program, for which an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) is required.

Clemson University was founded on due to the work of Thomas Green Clemson. The university was established in 1893 as Clemson College, five years after Thomas Clemson’s death. Clemson University is based in Clemson, South Carolina.

Clemson University offers a Master of Science degree program with a nursing major for bachelors prepared nurses. The nursing masters program prepares students for careers in the following advanced practice nursing roles:

The MSN programs are campus-based and held at the University Center of Greenville in Greenville, South Carolina.

Applicants to the nursing masters program must have a minimum of 600 hours of clinical career experience within the past year. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required. Students must score a 3.5 or above on the writing section of the GRE and a minimum of 150 and 140 on the verbal and quantitative sections respectively. Two letters of recommendation, one each from an academic and professional reference are required. Applicants to the RN to MSN program should be graduates of a BSN program with a 3.0 or higher GPA and have a South Carolina RN license.

Medical University of South Carolina was established in 1824. The university was originally a post-secondary institution for medical doctors. The Medical University of South Carolina campus also includes a hospital and children’s medical facility.

Medical University of South Carolina offers an RN to MSN Program for nurse practitioners in the following areas:

The nursing masters degree program is delivered primarily online, though students must go to campus for orientation and coursework. Depending on the student’s MSN concentration and class schedule, some nursing students will have to go to the MUSC campus more than others. Scholarships are available for nursing masters students, and in order to be considered students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Applicants to the MSN program at Medical University of South Carolina should have a BSN with a 3.0 or above GPA in nursing courses. It is also ideal that applicants have a 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA. A prerequisite course in statistics is required, but applicants do not need to take the Graduate Record Exam. In some cases, a student may need to sit for an interview with the nursing admission committee. Three letters of reference should be submitted using the nursing recommendation form and should be completely confidential.

In addition to the campus in Columbia, South Carolina, the university has campuses in North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Florida. Besides campus-based programs the university also offers several degree programs online.

The Master of Science in Nursing program at South University is offered online and in various satellite campuses throughout the United States. The MSN and RN to MSN programs are offered in a campus-based setting at the following locations:

In order to apply to the nursing masters program, applicants should have a current US nursing license and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. In the last 90 quarters or 60 semesters of the undergraduate program, the application should have a minimum 2.69 grade point average. The only prerequisite course required is statistics, which should cover both descriptive and inferential areas and be completed with a “C” or better. Three letters of recommendation, a personal essay and resume should be submitted along with the MSN application.

Founded in 1801, the University of South Carolina currently serves over 45,000 students. Other campuses are located in Aiken, Beaufort, Lancaster and Union and several other cities throughout the state. The University of South Carolina was originally founded as South Carolina College.

The nursing masters program at the University of South Carolina offers an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Primary Care Nurse Practitioner tracks. Both programs can be completed in two years plus an additional fall semester. Upon graduating from either MSN program, nurses are eligible to pursue certification in their area of study. Students in the acute care track, can add pediatric coursework to their program. The primary care program focuses on rural and underserved groups.

In order to graduate from the Master of Science in Nursing program, students must several requirements. Students should maintain a GPA of 3.0 in the nursing masters program and complete thesis and research courses in addition to courses in their specialty area. A Master of Science in Nursing Assessment is also a degree requirement.

The nursing masters degree programs are offered online and are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Though most coursework is offered online, students are required to meet with faculty on campus twice each semester. In order to apply to the RN to MSN program, applicants should have a South Carolina RN license, BSN and competitive scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
