Marshall University is a public research university founded in 1837. The college is named for the fourth United States Chief Justice, John Marshall.

All nursing masters degree programs start with a 12 credit nursing core group of courses, followed by courses in the specialization. After successfully completing the program, nursing masters students are eligible to take the certification exam in their area of study. The RN to MSN program ranges from 36 to 44 credits of study.

Applicants to the nursing program should meet the following criteria:

Nursing baccalaureate degree from a National League for Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Education accredited program

Minimum undergraduate Grade Point Average of 3.0

The following prerequisite courses completed with a grade of “C” or better: statistics and research

The following are the criteria for submitting Graduate Record Exams (GRE) scores:

Applicants with a GPA above 3.25 do not have to take the Graduate Record Exam

Applicants with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.24 must have a combined 800 (304-291 for new exam) score or above on the exam

Applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.9 must have a combined 1000 (336-301 for new exam) score or above on the exam

It is preferred, though not required, that all applicants have at least two years of clinical nursing experience.

Applicants to the nursing midwifery and psychiatric mental health concentrations are required to meet with the Shenandoah University admission committee.

West Virginia University is a public post-secondary institution established in 1867. Additional campuses are located in Charleston, Montgomery and Keyser.

West Virginia University has both a traditional Master of Science in Nursing program as well as a RN to MSN program for Registered Nurses without a bachelors degree in nursing. Students in the nursing masters program enroll in one of the specializations below:

Applicants to the Master of Science in Nursing program should have a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing earned with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applicants to the nursing masters program should meet one of the following criteria for standardized tests:

Combined score of 800 on the GRE and writing score of 3.0

Combined score of 286 on the GRE and writing score of 3.0

Score of 400 on the Miller Analogies Test

Applicants should hold an RN license valid in the USA and have graduated from a BSN program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Three letters of reference, a personal essay and prerequisite course in statistics are the final requirements. If an applicant does not meet all admission criteria, provisional admission may be awarded.

West Virginia Wesleyan College is private post-secondary institution that offers a liberal arts education. The college is related with the United Methodist Church. Approximately 1,400 students are enrolled at West Virginia Wesleyan College from over 30 states and 25 countries. The college was established in1890.

West Virginia Wesleyan College’s nursing masters program was recently granted initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The areas of concentration offered within the nursing masters degree program include the following:

MSN/MBA (Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration) combined degree program

The Nursing Administration and Nursing Education programs require 36 credits of study and can be completed in one year and four months. The Nurse Midwifery and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs are offered in conjunction with Shenandoah University.

A BSN degree, RN license and undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above are entrance requirements for the nursing masters degree program. In addition to the Graduate Admission application, applicants to the Master of Science in Nursing program should submit a personal essay, transcripts, two-three letters of reference (depending on the program), and GMAT scores if applying for the MSN/MBA joint degree program.

Wheeling Jesuit University was established in 1954. The university is a private university affiliated with the Jesuit tradition of the Roman Catholic faith. The university was founded by the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston in collaboration with the Society of Jesus of the Maryland Province. Wheeling Jesuit University serves approximately 1,500 students from over 20 states and countries

A RN to MSN program with a Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education Specialist or Nursing Administration focus is offered at Wheeling Jesuit University. The Nursing Administration program can be completed in 40-43 credits. The Nursing Education Specialist program can be completed in 42 to 43 credits. The Family Nurse Practitioner program can be completed in 48 credits of study. The MSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and designed to accommodate working nurses. An RN to MSN program is also offered for nurses who have completed the RN to BSN coursework.

Admission requirements to the MSN program include a combined GRE score of 800. The Graduate Record Exam score is waived for nurses who received a BSN from Wheeling Jesuit University. Nurses should have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program, earned with a 3.0 or above GPA. In addition to completing prerequisite courses in statistics and research, nursing masters applicants should have knowledge of computers and at least one computer software program. Three letters of recommendation should be submitted along with the MSN application.
