Carroll College

Tucked close to the serene mountain city park in Helena, Carroll College offers a vibrant and conducive environment to take the bachelors degree in nursing. Carroll offers a 4-year curriculum designed to prepare students take the NCLEX-RN exam. Students are admitted as freshmen to start on general education courses including theological courses.

By end of freshman year, students must have at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be eligible to apply to the professional nursing courses. Admission to the major phase occurs once annually in the fall semester. A priority ranking system is used during selection which takes into account the GPA, selected Carroll courses, pattern of repeats and withdrawals among other factors.

The BSN at Carroll has many attractive features including the Parish Nurse Certificate for students who wish to take a few extra courses. Students can also participate in the annual nursing outreach study abroad trip in Swaziland and spend time with patients of HIV/AIDS. There are also Army ROTC nursing scholarships for students who wish to become army nurse corps. The honors scholars program is also open for academically endowed students.

Montana State University

Serving as the largest and public university in the state, Montana State University offers a CCNE accredited comprehensive Bachelor of Science in nursing program. The undergraduate program consists of two phases; a lower division phase that can be completed at any university or college and an upper division professional nursing phase. The upper division clinical coursework must be completed at any of the university’s multi-campus sites around the state ie Bozeman, Billings, Great Falls, Missoula and Kalispell. 

The nursing school also runs a very attractive program tagged “Co-Op Program” that provides funding for Native Americans to take the nursing BSN. The majority of the beneficiaries are Americans of Indian Origin. Beyond the classroom walls, nursing students can participate in the International Service Learning Experience in world-wide locations including Kenya, Dominican Republic, Morocco, Costa Rica and Honduras.
