Adelphi University

The 4-year bachelor of nursing undergraduate degree at Adelphi University is open to high school graduates or transfer students who have completed prerequisites courses. Freshman students must first complete the lower division courses upon admission as a preparation for admission for junior and senior level nursing courses. Students admitted for the BSN have several study abroad opportunities to choose from including an exchange program with Jinan University of China,  a Transcultural Nursing Experience in Arizona, a community service project in Costa Rica and Peru.

Students should note that the study abroad programs are not-sponsored by the university and as such, they must grace the expenses.  Academically endowed students can also apply for the Honors Program to enjoy the numerous benefits in forms of scholarships, abroad learning experiences and many more. By the end of the program, graduates can apply for the NLEX-Registered Nurses Exam for Licensure.

The department of nursing at CMSV has a 126-credit, undergraduate curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.  The program is designed to take 4 years of full time study in preparation for the NLCEX-RN exam. High school graduates and transfer students are welcome to apply. First time college freshman students are expected to take about 60 credits of general education and prerequisite courses before starting on the clinical nursing courses in the fall of the junior year. Transfer students who have on the other hand completed prerequisites courses are also admitted for clinical courses at the fall semester. All students applying for the major nursing courses must have completed the preparatory courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

CUNY- Hunter College

The Generic baccalaureate nursing program at CUNY-Hunter is one of the 3 programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in nursing. The generic track is designed for first time college students and is divided into lower and upper division phases. All students start the lower division level and progress into the upper division if they meet the required admission criteria. Admission into the upper division is very competitive and no students are given guaranteed admission. Students must complete all lower division courses and have cumulative GPA of 50% in addition to earning at least 50% in the NLN pre-RN admission exam. The college accepts only 100 students each fall semester from the large pool of applicants. The program is offered on a full time day basis at the Brookdale Campus of Hunter College. The college boasts to have been awarded the prestigious recognition as Center of Nursing Excellence in offering environments that promote professional growth and learning by the NLN.

CUNY-Lehman College

Lehman College offers a 120-credit generic nursing program consisting of 75 upper division credits. The upper division is designed for students who have completed at least 45 lower division prerequisites courses during the first 2 years of study. Applicants for the upper division must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in the above mentioned required credits and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all college courses taken. As part of the admission process, applicants must take and pass the HESI A2 admission exam in order to be considered for the nursing major. The upper division phase is highly concentrated with nursing courses and requires students to have full time commitment to ensure completion in two years. Additionally, students must not exceed five years in completion time from the time the first nursing course was taken. All students with exceptional academic abilities can join the honors program or take independent projects from the nursing department.

CUNY-York College

CUNY-York College prepares students for the NLCEX-RN exam through a series of general education courses followed by a set of nursing major courses. Prior to admission to the nursing major, students must complete the 56 credit general education curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and with a grade of “C” or higher. Upon completion the general education courses, students interested in the major must take the CUNY Admission Exam and the NLN-Pre-admission exam for Registered nurses. Applicants must note that admission to the major is very competitive and completion of the general education phase is not a guarantee for entrance into the major. Besides the nursing curriculum students can participate in the nursing club or the honors program for the academically bright students.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN track at DYC is designed for both freshman and transfer students seeking initial licensure as registered nurses. Recent high school graduates with a high School average or 80% can apply for freshman admission if they rank in the top half of their high school graduating class, have a SAT or ACT score of 900 or 19 respectively. The program for freshman students starts with a strong foundation of liberal arts and supporting nursing courses. On the other hand, transfer students who have completed the required liberal arts and supporting courses must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be considered for admission for the major.  The track allows students to start on clinical nursing courses as early as the sophomore year hence more practical experience upon graduation.

Daemen College has a unique Bachelor of Science nursing program with a curriculum following the order 1+2+1. The BSN 1+2+1 is designed to prepare students to earn a bachelors degree while first completing the NLCLEX-RN exam for quick entry into nursing practice. The curriculum design was developed in a bid to counter the current shortage of nurses allowing students to earn their licensure while still continuing with a bachelor qualification. Daemen offers the program in partnership with other colleges including Eric Community college, Genesee Community College and Trociare College. Currently the college has stopped the partnership with Niagra County Community College and interested students can check for admission options in the other 3 available colleges.  In the above arrangement, students first earn an associate degree from the college and become eligible to take the NLCEX-RN exam and then proceed to complete an extra year to be eligible for the BSN degree. Outside the nursing curriculum, the college runs the Pi Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International honor Society for nurses.

The liberal arts-grounded traditional nursing undergraduate program is one of the 4 tracks leading to the award of a bachelor of nursing degree at Dominican College.  The nursing program at Dominican is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The curriculum for the traditional track consists of 131 credits; 70 in liberal arts general education courses and 61 in major nursing courses. The program kicks-off with the liberal arts and general courses that comprise of philosophy, sociology, psychology, math, biology, chemistry among others.  Upon completion of this phase students can then apply for admission into the major program. All courses are taught on a full time day format 5 days a week. At the end of the track, students become eligible to apply and write the NLCEX-RN exam for licensure.

The nursing undergraduate program at Elmira College is fully accredited by NLNAC. It is designed to prepare students with no prior nursing experience for initial licensure as registered nurses. The track takes four years to complete starting with a general education curriculum followed by a sequence of nursing, electives and support courses in the last three years.  Nursing clinical courses start early in the sophomore year and this helps students acquire extensive clinical experience prior to graduation. Besides the curricula preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam, nursing students at Elmira can apply for induction at the Rho Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International honor society for nurses in addition to the Elmira Nursing club. Students in the honor society can benefit from the society’s endowed students scholarship programs.

The professional 4-yeaar nursing program at Hart wick starts with foundation courses in biology, behavioral, and social sciences in the first year. Prior to becoming eligible to enroll for the sophomore year for nursing clinical courses, all courses in the freshman level must have been completed with a minimum of 2.0 cumulative average. Students with a lower average may be admitted to the nursing courses through an individual basis petition.  BSN students at Hartwick may get involved in numerous activities including membership in the College’s Association of Students Nurses, the Omicron Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and the Nursing Students without Borders program.  Students may also participate in immersion program in transcultural nursing in Jamaica and West Indies and rural health nursing and transcultural nursing.

LIU- Brooklyn offers a bachelor of science for beginning and transfer students with no prior nursing experience. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing education and prepares students for initial licensure as registered nurses. Freshman entrants must have a high school average of 85% and a SAT score of 1000 while transfer students must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for science courses and all college courses taken. Transfer students that do not meet the above GPA requirements may be admitted on a probationary basis and take 2 full time semesters so as to be designated as nursing majors. All students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 and a grade “C” on all courses upon admission to the nursing major to be eligible for progression and graduation. The program is available on a full time basis, a part time week format and a weekend/evening format.

Every fall semester, MSMC admits a new group of students to the baccalaureate undergraduate nursing program. Prior to applying to the nursing major, students interested in MSMC must ensure they have completed the identified prerequisites courses required for the major with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. In addition, applicants must also take the TEAS test and a pre-nursing computerized test.  Admission to the traditional track of the BSN is very competitive and the GPA alone may not be used for admission purposes.  Completion of the program grants students academic eligibility to apply and take the NLCEX-RN exam to become a registered nurse. Accreditation for the program is by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Mount Saint Mary also offers an advanced placement track for licensed practical nurses who wish to earn a BSN.

It is strongly grounded in the Nazareth Liberal arts foundation to give the learner a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the nursing profession. The program is open to both college beginner and transfer students who have already completed a number or preparatory non-nursing courses.  Interested students must keep in mind the spring and fall admission dates although applications are received on a rolling basis throughout the year. Nazareth has considered students with family or work responsibilities and has a 3-hour evening block for part time students in addition to the day time format.  Bright and academically excelling Students in the nursing track can apply for induction in the Pi Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau international honor society for nurses.

New York Institute of Technology

The undergraduate bachelor of nursing at NYIT is offered at the Old Westbury Campus and welcomes both freshman and transfer and change of major students. However, transfer students who have taken any nursing courses may not have their nursing courses accepted at NYIT.  The program is clearly divided into two phases; the pre-clinical phase for freshman and sophomore students taking general education and prerequisites courses and the clinical phase for clinical courses in junior and senior years.

 Admission to the program is a 3-step affair. The first step is admission in the freshman as a nursing intent while taking prerequisites courses. Step 2 is the competitive pre-clinical step where students are expected to have completed all prerequisites coursework and enrolled for the gateway to nursing course. At the 3rd step, students who have completed the first 2 steps are considered for admission. Factors including courses repeat and withdrawal cycles, GPA, reference letters, and a personal easy are considered during selection. Fall admission is open for all groups of students while spring admission is reserved for all other students except the freshman students.

New York University offers a traditional 4-years nursing track to high school graduates starting as freshman. The program has a curriculum of 128 credits; 44 of liberal arts, 20 of prerequisites and science courses and 64 of clinical and major nursing courses. Liberal arts, science and prerequisite courses are designed for the first 2 years while nursing courses are scheduled to start on the junior year. Students are admitted to the nursing program once annually for the fall semester with academic history & performance, volunteer work, personal statement and recommendation letters being factored in. Highly performing students can apply for induction in the university Gamma Theta Chapter of STTI honor society for nurses.

At Nyack College, beginning and transfer students are welcome to apply for the 4-year full time Bachelor of Science in nursing program (BSN).  The program is fully accredited by CCNE and prepares to become academically eligible for the NLCEX-RN exam in preparation for registered nurses licensure.  Those interested to start as freshmen must have completed at least 16 units of high school preparatory subjects including math English, lab sciences and foreign languages. Freshman applicants are also expected to take the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam before admission. For transfer students, admission is not guaranteed by meeting the minimum requirements or passing the Kaplan Exam. Instead, availability of clinical resources and class space determines the admittance of transfer cases.

The entry-level Bachelor of nursing science at Pace University is designed to prepare students for initial licensure as registered nurses.  It is meant for students who have no prior nursing experience including transfer, freshman and change of major students from Pace. The program is offered at 2 campuses of the university; the Pleasantville campus and the New York City campus. All students interested in the nursing major must take the Evolve Reach Admission Assessment prior to placing their application. Transfer and change of major students must note that preference in major admission is given to students who started as freshmen with the intention declaring a nursing major. Clinical nursing courses start on a full load at the start of sophomore year and as such, students gain extensive experience in dealing with real patients and working in the health care environment.

Nursing students at Roberts Wesleyan can pursue extra areas of interest the most notable one being the Parish Nursing. Those who take Parish Nursing alongside the major receive a Certificate upon completion. The college also fosters Transcultural nursing and in line with this, sends students to foreign countries for such transcultural immersions. If students successfully pass this phase, they can apply for admittance to the nursing major at junior level for clinical nursing courses. Prior to applying, all students eyeing a spot in the major must complete a Level A  Math Screening and Competency exam with a score of 84% or higher.  Beyond the BSN curriculum, students in the nursing program have the opportunity to participate in the Study Abroad program in Kenya dubbed “Building Futures Building Health”.

Stony Brook’s basic baccalaureate nursing program is a 2-year upper division track designed for non-licensed students with no prior nursing education. The plan of the program is for students to complete the lower division requirements of the Bachelor of Science in nursing program at any accredited university/college and transfer the credits to Stony Brook university Hospital. Students may also choose to take the lower division at Stony Brook College. This generic program should not be confused with the Registered nurse to BSN program or the accelerated BSN track for students with another bachelor’s degree. Students that choose to take lower division courses at another college must check with the school for the specific prerequisites to take to ensure all credits transfer to Stony Brook. At Stony Brook University Hospital, students must bring-on at least 57 credits take at least 71 credits onsite in clinical nursing courses to be eligible to graduate and take the NCLEX-RN exam.

SUNY-Binghamton University

For you to be admitted at the State University of New York-Binghamton University for the Bachelor of nursing degree, you must have completed high school and taken either the SAT or ACT exams. Students must submit applications during the fall semester of the final high school year. The BSN curriculum consists of 128 credits: 57 of nursing/upper division courses and 71 of general education and prerequisite courses. The general education courses must be completed before students apply to proceed to the upper division clinical courses starting at junior year. During the last semester of senior year, student nurses take a professional nursing immersion program to enable them gain confidence of working in clinical setting before they graduate.  The school of nursing offers all current nursing students a chance to secure a scholarship in support of their tuition fees.  In extra-curricular activities, students can seek membership in the university’s Student Nurses Association and the Sigma Theta Tau Iota Chapter.

SUNY-Farmingdale State College

Farmingdale State College has a 4-year Bachelor of nursing program leading to registered nurses licensure upon completion. Applicants to the BS in nursing track must have graduated from high school and completed high school biology, chemistry and math.  First, high school graduates at freshman level must complete a curriculum of prerequisites courses prior to applying again for the nursing major. Applicants who have been shortlisted from the outcomes of the prerequisite courses may then take the NLN Preadmission exam. Admission is very selective and competitive and meeting the requirements for admission does not guarantee a seat in the nursing major class. Students who are officially accepted in the major must maintain a minimum grade of “C” to ensure retention and progression in the program. Upon completion, graduates become academically eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

SUNY-Plattsburgh

 A traditional nursing program for students with no prior experience is offered at SUNY Plattsburgh main campus. The 120-credit track is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and welcomes freshman, transfer and change of major students.  Students must first gain admission to the university and enroll for prerequisites courses after which application to the major can be made. Admittance to the major is very competitive and depends upon academic qualifications of applicants and the number of spaces available. Change of major students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and must seek approval from the nursing department depending on space availability. On the other hand, transfer students from other colleges may have up-to 67 credits accepted at Plattsburgh with a maximum of 34 on nursing courses. Students with exceptional academic performance may apply for induction in the Sigma Theta Gamma Delta Chapter of SUNY Plattsburgh.

SUNY-The College at Brockport

Students wishing to get admitted to the Bachelor of Science in nursing at SUNY Brockport must first gain general admission to the college.  Acceptance into the college is separate from acceptance into the nursing major and students complete a prerequisites curriculum prior to applying to the major. Upon admission as a freshman, students remain designated as “Nursing Intents” until they have applied and become admitted into the nursing major phase. The first 2 years of college are reserved for prerequisites courses and a minimum of 54 credits must have been completed prior to applying usually at the end of the sophomore year. Direct transfer and change of major students require a higher cumulative GPA to be eligible to apply than traditional freshmen.  Students interested in military service may apply for the prestigious Army ROTC nursing scholarships. Brockport runs an active Sigma Theta Omicron Beta Chapter for the academically endowed students.

SUNY-Upstate Medical University

The design of the bachelor degree in nursing at Upstate Medical University is a 2+2 approach designed to enable students earn both an associate degree and a bachelor degree from the same program. SUNY-Upstate has formed partnerships with most community and two year colleges in New York that offer the Associate degree in nursing. On their part, the partner colleges offer the first 2 years of the 2+2 plan after which students become eligible to write the NCLEX-RN exam. All students who apply to SUNY-Upstate and the partner colleges are guaranteed a place to the last part of the 2+2 plan which leads them to completing the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.  This guarantee is on condition that they meet a cumulative GPA of 2.8 during their 2 years at the partner college.

Though the College of Rochelle was founded as a Women college, the Bachelor of nursing program is open to both women and men wishing to become registered nurses. Freshman and transfer students are welcome to apply for the program designed to take 4-years of full time study. Due to its affiliation to the Catholic Church, nurses are trained in an environment embracing and teaching catholic faith and traditions. Liberal arts and a holistic approach to nurse training are also evident in the BSN curriculum. Registered nurses interested in completing a BSN can check the RN to BSN track.

The traditional nursing degree at SUN-Buffalo is one of the 3 tracks leading to the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. Admittance to the traditional track is open to both freshman and transfer students and is very competitive and dependent on space availability. Students must submit two applications: one for the university and the other one for admission into the school of nursing. During the freshman year, students take prerequisite courses and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for consideration for the major. In extracurricular activities, nursing students join the Multicultural student nursing organization, the Students Nurses Associations, the Sigma Theta Gamma Kappa chapter or Community Service Programs.

The Bachelor of Science program in nursing at Utica runs for 4 years on a full time format while preparing students for the NCLEX-RN exam and registered nurse licensure.  The program is unique in that nursing courses starts on a full-load during the sophomore year. This is made due to the fact that students are directly matriculated into the nursing major soon after admission to Utica. This means that students do not have to wait in uncertainty for admission into the nursing program after the 1st 2 years; a common feature in other BS in nursing programs.  Freshman students with high academic grades may be invited to join the university’s honor program. While in the honor program, nurses can complete extra honor credits to enable them graduate with a BSN with honors upon completion.
