Chattahoochee Valley Community College Nursing Program Review

Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) has served as the source of education for the Chattahoochee Valley for over 35 years. As the main community college in the area, the college strives to make students ready for their entrance into a four-year college and acclimate students to the transition from schooling to the workforce. This college promotes opportunities for students to give back to the community and develop their leadership skills.

Chattahoochee Valley Community College Nursing Program Review

This college offers three different ways to start a career in the field of nursing. The Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing Programs are accepted and approved by the Alabama State board of Nursing. Specific requirements may be required for admission to this institution’s nursing programs. Students should see the College Catalog for the specific requirements for each program of interest.

Associate Degree Nursing – Mobility Program – LPN to RN

During this course of study, practical nurses holding a license, can obtain the knowledge and skills required to achieve their Associate in Applied Science degree. This program is a one year course of study for completion. After successful completion, graduates can be eligible to take the licensure exam to become a Registered Nurse (RN). This program is appropriated by the Alabama Board of Nursing. This program is an excellent choice for those LPNs who want to take their career to the next level and achieve a salary increase along with continuing their education to become a more respected member of the nursing community.

AAS – Nursing (ADN) – RN

The Associate Degree Nursing program offered at Chattahoochee Valley Community College is a five term curriculum. This program allows, upon successful completion, for the student to hold an Applied Science Degree in Nursing. This course of study includes 72 hours for completion and teaches the student the familiarity and expertise in the field that are required to take the licensure examination to obtain the title of Registered Nurse (RN). Clinical experience is required to complete the program and all agencies are required to be accredited by the proper accrediting association. The program includes 30 hours of general education and 42 hours of nursing specific instruction. Each student is required to meet the specifications set by the National Council Licensure Committee in order to complete the NCLEX-RN.

Licensed Practical Nursing Program (LPN)

This pathway for entering the field of nursing offered at the Chattahoochee Valley Community College is a one year program that leads to certification in Licensed Practical Nursing. After completion of the program the student will be qualified to apply to take the licensure exam (NCLEX-PN) in order to obtain the title of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). During the course of this program, students will learn the necessary knowledge to be able to enter the workforce with the confidence of being familiar with the terminology used today as well as the technology used in most facilities. Employment opportunities for graduates of this rapidly growing field are vast and upon licensing, the student can choose to either go straight into the workforce or continue their education to take their career to the next level.
