University of Mobile Nursing School Review

University of Mobile (UM) is a private Christian institution that is associated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention. This University began in 1961 under the name Mobile College. In 1993 it achieved University status, thus resulting in the name change to University of Mobile. Today, the institution is still holding true to its founding traditions of interlinking spiritual development and education through academic programs.

University of Mobile Nursing Program Review

The University of Mobile’s School of Nursing encourages students to treat patients with compassion and knowledge that includes caring for them on a spiritual and emotional level as well as caring for their physical needs. The programs available also teach future nurses how to deal with the stress of life and death scenarios that they will encounter on a daily basis. With a team of highly qualified professional instructors, students will obtain an all inclusive nursing education.

ADN – Associate Degree in Nursing

The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at University of Mobile can be completed in a total of 70 semester hours or 5 semesters. During the student’s journey through this program, they will learn the basic skills necessary to become a critical thinker in the nursing field and the ethical and legal matters involved with being a professional in the nursing industry. After students successfully complete this program, they are then considered to be eligible to apply to write for the national exam for licensure to begin their career as a Registered Nurse (RN). Graduates of this program can apply for employment in a variety of different health care facilities including hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, as well as many others. Several prerequisites are required for admission to this program and students should check with a nursing advisor to ensure all requirements have been completed before applying.

BSN – Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Students may opt to enter the eight semester, four year program to obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This program is designed to prepare students to enter the world of professional nursing as well as continue their education. By obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, the student has the opportunity to apply for jobs with more responsibility and will allow for them to take a leadership role in the health care facility in which they become employed. After the student has completed this program, they are then eligible to apply to take the national exam for licensure to begin their professional career as a Registered Nurse (RN).

RN to BSN Program for Career Nurses

This program is set up for adult or non-traditional students who are already working in the field of nursing. Applicants must have finished the curriculum for a basic level nursing program within three years of a applying or have been working in the nursing industry for three of the past five years at the time of application. This program can be completed in approximately three semesters. Successful completion of this program makes the student eligible to take the certification exam in order to use the BSN in their professional title.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – Nursing Education/Administration

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program offered at the University of Mobile is designed for the working nurse who would like to take their education to the next level. This MSN program has a major of Nursing Education/Administration. The major is centered around teaching nurses who would like to obtain knowledge on how to become a teacher and administrator. Students will be taught on the principals of educating future nurses and how to effectively carry out plans and help facilities to provide caring, cost effective services to patients.
