University of South Alabama (USA) is located on the Gulf Coast and was established in 1963 and opened in 1964. The university is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of South Alabama Nursing Program Review

The University of South Alabama College of Nursing strives to challenge its students to achieve to the highest level of their desired education in a way that fits their lifestyles. This institution facilitate creative, compassionate individuals to become a positive addition to the nursing industry and promote themselves to making a difference in their community, the program, as well as the health care system on a personal patient level.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN)

The main objective in this program is getting students prepared for the aspects they will come into contact with on a daily basis once employed in the nursing field. The program promotes professional behavior while training the students to interact with the culturally diverse general public. Using state-of-the-art technology, this institution teaches students about information management systems in order to create a better quality of care for each patient no matter their age or the setting in which they are being treated. Under this program, students are prepared to take the NCLEX in order to get licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). Several different tracks are available for students under this program. Students can choose from the Traditional Four Year Pre-Licensure Track, Accelerated BSN/MSN Track, and the RN to BSN Track for Associate Degree/Diploma Prepared RNs.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

This program is designed to train nurses in the science of advanced nursing techniques. Students who complete this program can also go on to achieve their doctoral degree. This program hones in on training individuals to become members of the industry who can go on to improve upon the system as a whole by taking leadership positions and making the most of research data in order to make advances in individual patient care. Under this program of study, students have several different options in how to complete their education to receive the MSN degree. The Post BSN option is intended for RNs having a BSN. Post MSN Certificate option is intended for RNs who are seeking education in a specialty in the nursing profession. Students who choose this option can choose from a variety of specialties offered.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

This degree prepares students for the most advanced level of nursing. Graduates have the ability to gain the highest level of leadership positions in the industry. They exit the program with the knowledge and skills to organize and maintain low cost, quality care for patients across the life cycle as well as in different cultural settings. Available tracks offered under this program are the BSN to DNP option and the Post Master’s DNP. Both programs are conducted online. BSN to DNP offers specialties in several different categories as well as offering several different Subspecialties. The Post Masters DNP program offers two different options for students to achieve this level of education.
