ADN Programs in Oregon

What is an Oregon ADN?
The Oregon State Board of Nursing has approved 16 associate degree programs for registered nursing, ADN programs. ADN stands for an Associate Degree in Nursing. Once you successfully complete your Oregon ADN program, you will be ready to become a registered nurse after passing the Registered Nurse(RN) licensing examination.

Once I have my ADN degree in Oregon, how do I become an RN?

The Oregon State Board of Nursing has a helpful list of steps to take in order to become an RN once you successfully complete your ADN program. The first step is to obtain an Oregon Licensure by Examination packet. If you haven’t already received this from your school prior to completion of your ADN program, the packets can be obtained from the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

The second step is to complete the application, the photo ID form, pay the relevant fee and ensure that your ADN program has sent certified copies of your transcript to the Oregon State Board of Nursing. In addition, the ADN program sends a candidate list to the Oregon State Board of Nursing of individuals who have successfully completed the nursing program and are now ready to proceed with their nursing career.

You also will need to register online with Pearson Vue to take the NCLEX-RN, the national licensing exam for registered nurses. Once the Oregon State Board of Nursing verifies that your application is complete and that you have registered with Pearson Vue, it will notify Pearson Vue that you are eligible to take the test. This action causes Pearson Vue to send an Authorization to Test letter or e-mail to you.

The next step is for you to make an appointment with Pearson Vue to take your NCLEX sometime in the 90 days after you receive your ATT letter or e-mail from Pearson. After you take the test, the results are sent to the Oregon Board of Nursing in a few days. The Oregon Board of Nursing then either sends you your license, or a letter telling you that you failed the test, and explaining how well you performed on the various sections of the exam to help you prepare for the next attempt.

What is the salary for RN’s with ADN’s in Oregon?

The average annual salary for an RN, with or without an ADN, in Oregon is $72,000. Of course, that is only an average. Depending on your level of experience, any specialties that you practice and your location, that figure can be either higher or lower.
