Admission Requirements for LPN Programs in Alabama
In order to be eligible for LPN training in Alabama, you need to have completed high school, and have a high school diploma, or you need to have completed a GED. You also need to have a clear criminal record (particularly for felonies, and particularly for any crimes related to controlled substances) and you need to show that you have a good moral character.
People with substance abuse or mental health problems, or who have lied or committed fraud in a job setting in the past probably won’t be allowed to train or work as an LPN in Alabama.
Essentially, you need to be able to prove that you have a good character, and are trustworthy enough to take care of patients who may be ill or injured.
Training and Certification for LPN’s In Alabama
If you qualify, the first step in becoming a Licensed Nurse Practitioner in Alabama is to undergo state approved training. These programs are accredited by the Alabama Board of Nursing, and are offered primarily at community colleges throughout the state.
Once you have completed a training program, the next step to certification is to pass the NCLEX-PN, or National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurse, which will test your practical and theoretical knowledge. You can then register with the nursing board, and accept any LPN job in the state.
The training and certification program takes on average one year to complete.
