LPN Programs in New Jersey

Licensed Practical Nurses in New Jersey work in hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, and private medical and dental practices. They work directly with patients, under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors, and they are in big demand in New Jersey, and elsewhere in the US.

You cannot, however, become an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) unless you follow a specific route to training and certification.

Finding the Right LPN Schools in New Jersey

Most LPN training options in New Jersey are certificates or associate degree courses, that take between one and two years to complete.

They’re offered by colleges, community colleges, technical and practical schools and universities, and there are courses in most parts of the state.

The most important thing about the training course you choose, however, is that it must be state approved. That means that the New Jersey Board of Nursing has reviewed and approved the course curriculum, and that they accredit the course.

If you take a non accredited course, you probably will not be able to complete the next step in the process, or work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Jersey, or anywhere else.

Certification and Licensing for LPN’s in New Jersey

The next step in becoming an LPN in New Jersey is to pass the national certification exam, and then to register with the nursing board. You will probably need to undergo a background or criminal record check, and possibly present a few other credentials, before you can become licensed.

Working As An LPN In New Jersey

Once you have qualified and registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Jersey, the next step is to find a job.

Fortunately, LPNs, like many other nursing professionals, are in great demand in New Jersey today. They earn, on average, around $40,000 per year, and they have access to jobs in the public and private sector, in institutions ranging from private practices to hospitals.

LPN’s are required by law to work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a doctor (or in some cases, a dentist.) They work directly with patients much of the time, and they are prohibited, by law, from delegating or issuing patient care instructions in a medical setting (although they often do take on more responsibilities)

Many licensed practical nurses work in the field for a while, and then decide to train and qualify as an RN, medical technician or in health care administration.
