LPN Programs in Oklahoma

If you want to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in Oklahoma, you’re making a good career choice. That’s because there’s going to be an increase in the demand for qualified licensed practical nurses in the state of nearly 10% over the next few years, and jobs are plentiful.

Before you can work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), however, there’s a three step process you need to follow, to train, certify and register.

How to Train As an LPN in Oklahoma

The very first thing you need to do, if you want to become an LPN in Oklahoma, is to take a training course. LPN classes in Oklahoma are approximately one year long, and they include practical, theoretical and lab based training. Much of the training is supervised by qualified and Registered Nurses, and by the time you’ve completed an LPN program in Oklahoma, you should be ready to take on the job in any setting.

What’s very important to remember, however, is that only programs that have been approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing as meeting the minimum educational requirements for LPN studies make you eligible to certify and register. So make sure that when you contact one of the many colleges, community colleges, online programs and universities that advertise LPN courses in Oklahoma, the course is accredited.

How to Certify As an LPN in Oklahoma

The next step in the LPN process is to get certified.

That means taking the national competency exam for LPNs, also known as the NCLEX-PN. The exam covers both the practical and theoretical elements of LPN course content in Oklahoma.

How to Register As an LPN in Oklahoma

Once you have completed a state approved licensed practical nursing  program, and passed the NCLEX-PN exam, you still need to register as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Oklahoma.

To do that, you will need to submit your training results and your exam results, as well as inoculation records, a criminal background check and other items to the Oklahoma State Nursing Board, and pay the fees.

Working As an LPN In Oklahoma

Once you are on the state registry of LPN’s in Oklahoma, you will be able to accept any LPN job at any hospital, clinic, doctors office or dental practice in the state. You’ll also be able to legally use the title ‘Licensed Practical Nurse.’

You should find that most jobs on offer to LPN’s in Oklahoma pay well over $30,000 per year, although your salary expectations as an LPN in the state will vary according to where you work, and your skill and experience.
