The Michigan Department of Community Health, Bureau of Health Professions, which oversees the approval of CNA training programs, says that there are over 200 approved training centers in the state. These are offered by high schools, colleges and community colleges, nursing homes and private organizations, like the Red Cross. Where you study isn’t all that important, as long as the training program is approved.

What Does the CNA Course in Michigan Entail?

According to federal law, the minimum duration of a CNA training course is 75 hours, and it should combine both class room studies, and clinical, on the job training. The same standard applies to certified nurses aide training in Michigan, although many training programs offer additional training too.

The curriculum of any CNA course in Michigan will usually include medical terminology, basic nursing and patient care, CPR, infection control and other ‘hands on’ aspects of the job, as well as reporting, administrative issues and more. When you complete a CNA training course in Michigan, you should be ready to start working in any hospital, nursing home, hospice or any other facility.

Before you can work as a CNA in Michigan, even if you have completed approved training, you need to pass the Michigan state competency exam. You will then be able to register as a CNA in the state.

The average salary for a CNA in Michigan is around $25,600, which is not as high as some other states, but is still a respectable salary, given the speed with which you can enter the field.

Often, Certified Nurse Assistants (Aides) later go on to study further, and qualify as nurses or medical assistants, but becoming a CNA in Michigan or elsewhere is often the fastest way to begin a career in healthcare.
