The Sacramento Region Community Foundation offers the Nadine Dimick Nursing Scholarship to encourage students in the Sacramento area to pursue careers in nursing.

The National Center for Learning Disabilities

The center is dedicated to helping those with disabilities reach their fullest potentials.  The organization offers a couple of scholarships. The scholarships may be directed toward any field of study, including nursing.  The student would need to ensure that the area of nursing they wish to focus on has no particular hurdles that a student could not overcome.

The Anne Ford Scholarship

Hosted by the National Center for Learning Disabilities this scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school student entering a 4 year college program. There is no stipulation about studies so studies toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing would qualify.  The dollar value for this scholarship is $10,000, awarded as $2,500 each year.

Eligibility includes a student with a learning disability who is enrolled in full time studies towards a bachelor’s degree. Overall GPA must be 3.0 or higher

Allegra Ford Scholarship

This scholarship from the National Center for Learning Disabilities is for $2,500 and awarded to a graduating high school student entering a 2 year community college program, or a vocational program. Students seeking to become Licensed Vocational Nurses might qualify for this scholarship.

Eligibility for this scholarship includes a recognized learning disability, proven participation in school or community activities and a demonstrated financial need.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarships

The organization offers 30 scholarships each year to persons who are considered to be legally blind.  Though a career in certain areas of nursing may be impossible, many areas may still be open to individuals who desire a career in nursing.

If during your career as a nurse you have become legally blind then these scholarships may assist you in finding a second career.

National Italian American Foundation Scholarships

This foundation offers grants and scholarships to students based upon merit and academic achievement.  Scholarships can range from $2,000 to $12,000 and are available to students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies in nursing.

National Japanese American Citizens League – Scholarships (JACL)

Since 1946 this organization has helped many Japanese-American citizens with their educational goals.  Today they provide over 30 scholarship awards to qualified students.  Qualifying study programs include undergraduate and graduate nursing studies.  Applicants must be JACL members, nut may be of any ethnic background.

National Need for Nursing Scholarship
The University of Evansville offers the National Need for Nursing Scholarship for students pursuing careers in nursing.   The University of Evansville offers two programs for nursing students:  Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program and the RN to BSN program.   The eligible candidate must have and must have been accepted to the University of Evansville’s nursing program.  The candidate must also have a combined SAT score of 1530 or ACT score of 23.

Neuroscience Nursing Foundation Research Grant
The Neuroscience Nursing Foundation offers the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation Research Grant to support research projects that help develop the knowledgebase of neuroscience nursing and help increase the quality of patient care.  The eligible candidate must be a student who is a Registered Nurse in a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree program, a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program, or a post-graduate program.  The candidate must be a “new investigator” who has not received funding for a research project in the past.

New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) – Health Professional Loan Repayment Program

The state of New Mexico offers a loan repayment program to help health professionals, such as newly graduated nurses, pay off the education loans.  In particular, the state seeks advanced practice nurses and mental health professionals.  Financial assistance of up to $25,000 each year is available.

New York State ENA September 11 Scholarship
The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Foundation offers the New York State ENA September 11 Scholarship to encourage rescue workers to pursue careers in nursing.  The eligible candidate must be a rescue worker such as a firefighter, police officer or pre-hospital care provider.  The candidate must also have been accepted into to pre-licensed nursing program and have had a least one year of pre-hospital work experience.    A letter of reference from a current Emergency Nurses Association member is required.

This organization helps students access a number of grants and scholarships that are available from colleges, the state of New York and the Federal Government.  Some of these scholarships are specific to children and spouses of persons lost in tragic plane crashes, or those of veterans lost or injured during conflicts.  There are also loan forgiveness programs specific to nursing faculty.

Nurse Support Program II – (NSP II) Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship and Living Expenses Grant

This program began as an initiative to recruit nurses for the state of Maryland. In so doing, grant monies are provided to increase the number of qualifies nursing faculty at schools of nursing (Masters or Doctoral level).

 Nursing Education Teacher Stipend
The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning offers the Nursing Education Teacher Stipend to encourage Mississippi registered nurses to continue with their nursing education and to provide Mississippi with a stable supply of skilled nurses and teachers.  The eligible candidate must be a resident of Mississippi, have a current Mississippi nursing license and must be enrolled full- or part-time at an accredited college or university pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing degree or a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.  Stipend recipients must agree to teach for one year in Mississippi accredited nursing school.

Nursing Fund Scholarship
The State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana offers the Nursing Fund Scholarship to encourage Indiana residents to pursue careers in nursing.  It was created in 1990 by the Indiana General Assembly.  The eligible candidate must be a resident of Indiana and must be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.   The candidate must agree to work as a registered nurse providing direct care for 2 years in the state of Indiana following graduation.  The candidate must also have a GPA of at least 2.0 and demonstrate financial need.
